Johnny Cash--美国乡村音乐传奇人物，二战后最伟大的乡村歌手之一，获得11项格莱美奖。2003年9月因糖尿病引发的呼吸窒息辞世，距离他的第二任妻子June病逝四个月，这首歌就是为妻子的去世而创作的，可以说是Johnny Cash的绝唱！

Johnny Cash是影响美国近代乡村、流行、摇滚与民谣界最重要的创作歌手之一，他以浑厚而深沉的男中音，简约有力的吉他，创造了属于他自己的独特声音，在他一生超过四百首的创作歌曲当中，有一百首以上的歌曲进入过乡村榜前四十名。

Johnny Cash的一生，被称为美国草根精神的杰出代表，从最初完全的不起眼的音乐爱好者（他甚至在自己20岁时才第一次开始接触吉他），经过自己的努力，从士兵到酒吧跑场歌手，到公司签约歌手，到逐渐成为被歌迷尊重拥戴的享有盛誉的伟大歌手，一直不曾改变的是cash对处于弱势群体民众的关注，他是许多不同阶层的美国民众的代言人，他有着美国人独特的视角，他的作品所触及的范围从知识份子的社会观察、蓝领阶级的悲苦生活、恋爱中的百味杂陈、市井小民的真实心声甚至罪犯的心理描摹....等等都有，可说是代表全美国人的良心之声。

1960年元旦，Cash 到了San Quentin监狱，为那些被认为是恶徒的罪犯演出，音乐深深地感动了在座的每一个人，甚至感化了一位因为偷窃判刑入狱14年的囚徒，最后这位囚徒成为了一名乡村歌手！
